The Wright Travel Site

Varanasi, India

After the business side of the trip was over I ventured to several places in northern India starting with one of the oldest cities on the planet, Varanasi.  This city lies on the Ganges river and is the Hindu cultural center. This was an experience for a western traveler! The sites, sounds and smells were over powering.  The city seems to be in constant worship day and night. Along the Ganges are special activities of worship at sundown and sunup.

It also is home to some of the very best silk weavers and some amazing wares can be found here.

I stayed in a lovely old hotel and then spent time around the city.....

Life on the river besides the religious ceremonies is exceptionally varied....
