Peru 2014 – Cusco

We spent a week in and around Cusco staying in the wonderful Belmond Monasterio Hotel, a 17th century monastery now turned hotel. Spend this week plus the next one horseback riding all at greater than 3400m was an experience in endurance. Breathing at those altitudes is no joke! The entire area is filled with old Inca ruins and we spent the time seeing many of them as well as getting in some white water rafting, a new experience for Red, see the video from shore and from inside the raft!

One of the most impressive Inca sites was Ollantaytambo. Overlooking the sacred valley it’s a very extensive site. See it in this video.

We also visited a variety of the local food including some rather bizarre restaurants, one you see in the album below, and we learned how to make chocolate from scratch!
