Now being retired we’ve broadened out our trip options and decided to revisit some sites in America from our past. Some of these were introduced to me in the great road trip of my youth in either 1977 or 78, the memory is not 100%. 🙂
This time instead of leaving Chicago in the back of my father’s gold Buick and doing a loop down to the southwest and up across the upper west and home, we loaded up the Mini Cooper and departed Seattle for a trip east. We hit Palouse Falls, WA several sites in Idaho including a dinosaur dig and on to Grand Teton National Park in a >100 yr old lodge and rafting the Snake River. This was followed by several nights in the Lake Yellowstone Hotel, another one from over 100 yrs ago. After Yellowstone we moved on to Devil’s Tower, Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse. Then the long trek back across Montana, including “mining for sapphires” in tiny Philipsburg, MT. 3000 miles in two weeks with a respiratory infection for me and failing brakes on the Mini.
We even got to see the aliens return to Devil’s Tower.
Good times were had by all!
